Ñawpa Ñan Cultural Project

For over 30 years families in the Sacred Valley of Peru have worked together to protect and revive their Andean culture through grassroots cultural work, through the Ñawpa Ñan cultural project. Along the journey, Pachamama’s Path was founded to support this commitment. This dedication grew into a clearer vision and understanding that the most effective way to create long-term change was through education, and so in 2008 the Kusi Kawsay Association, a non-profit registered in Peru, was founded,  and the Kusi Kawsay (Happy Life in Quechua) Andean School opened its doors in 2010.

Kusi Kawsay serves through multiple life-enriching programs, all providing quality educational experiences for confident, free, self-assured young adults and leaders of the future for a better world, uplifting cultural identity with dignity and rights for the empowerment of the interconnected interdependence of Indigenous Peoples and the natural world.

Through various fundraising events, grants, and individual donations, Pachamama’s Path funds the Kusi Kawsay Association, which seeks to empower the children, youth, and their families adults of Indigenous communities in the Sacred Valley near Cusco, Peru through the creation and support of permanent, multidisciplinary programs through its Andean school, community-produced videos, cultural center, workshops, traditional music and dance group, radio broadcasts, special events, and cultural exchanges with other Indigenous communities. These integral educational activities reinforce, promote and protect the values and knowledge of Andean culture—and in this way, empower the endangered traditional way of life. This model serves as in inspiration for like-minded initiatives and connects Indigenous Peoples.
